FAQ's
What are wax melts?
Wax melts are scented pieces of wax, similar to candles but without a wick. When heated in a wax warmer, they release a beautiful fragrance into the air. Unlike candles, wax melts don’t burn away; the wax remains after the fragrance is gone.
Are wax melts better than candles?
It really depends on what you prefer, we love both! wax melts are a cost-effective alternative to candles. While a single candle offers one scent, wax melts allow you to explore a variety of fragrances for a lower cost per scent. Wax melts can fill a room with scent in as little as 15 minutes, whereas candles often take longer to achieve a melt pool big enough to fill a room.
What type of wax do you use?
Our wax melts are made from a high-quality custom blend of Rapeseed, Coconut and highly-refined mineral wax, this blend was made for maximum scent throw and performance.
What is a wax melt burner, and which one should I use?
A wax melt burner is a device used to melt wax melts and release their fragrance. There are two main types:
- Tealight burners: Place the wax melt into the dish on top of the tealight burner and use a tealight candle underneath to heat the wax, providing a fast and effective scent throw
- Electric burners: Electric burners typically are small lightbulbs that plug into the wall socket, with a small dish above the bulb to gently melt the wax, making them safer for homes with pets or children. However, the scent throw may be slightly less intense compared to tealight burners due to the lower heat produced.
Can I use any burner with your wax melts?
We recommend using a tealight burner with a gap of at least 10cm between the flame and the wax dish. Electric burners are also suitable for our wax melts but this is dependant on the strength of the heat provided, typically our wax melts and begins to offer a good scent throw at around 50-55c, but avoid using "oil burners" as they may overheat the wax.
What is “scent throw”?
Scent throw refers to how far and how strong the fragrance travels when a wax melt is heated. High-quality wax melts like ours provide a strong scent throw that fills a room within minutes.
Do wax melts evaporate?
No, wax melts don’t evaporate. The fragrance oils in the wax are released during melting, and once the scent fades, the leftover wax can be discarded.
How long do wax melts last?
Each segment of our wax melts provides up to 8-10 hours of scent, the first 4 hours are usually very strong, and the second 4 hour burn will be lighter.
If you want to get the most of your melt you can melt the wax a final time and you should get noticeable fragrance throw for another 2 hours, please note, everyone has a different nose, and some scents may be stronger for you than for somebody else.
How often should I change the wax in my burner?
We recommend changing the wax every 8-10 hours of use or when the scent begins to fade, the duration of scent throw is largely affected by the size of tealight that you use or how high your electric melter is set to.
How do I remove used wax from my burner?
To remove wax:
- While the wax is still warm, soak it up using cotton pads or a paper towel.
- Alternatively, let the wax harden and gently pop it out using a warm tap or a butter knife. Ensure the dish is completely dry before adding fresh wax, and make sure not to clean any wax out near carpet or areas you don't want to stain or spill wax on.
Can I mix different wax melts to create custom scents?
We would advise against this since our melts come with the relevant CLP information for that specific oil blend, and mixing waxes would void that CLP.
How can I maximize the scent throw of my wax melts?
Use a tealight burner with a high-quality unscented tealight and ensure your room is not too drafty, but we always advise opening a small window for airflow. For electric burners due to the lower temperatures produced by the bulb, place them in a smaller, enclosed space to enhance the fragrance.
Are your wax melts vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes, all Souvant products are 100% vegan and cruelty-free.
Are your wax melts free from harmful substances?

Are wax melts safe to use around pets and children?
Whilst it's almost impossible to give a strict yes or no to this, particularly with pets since often we don't have a way to know if they have any allergies, wax melts are used in homes with pets all over the world. We would advise any pet owners to keep animals especially those with known health complications away from any wax melts when being used, from a health perspective the same principle applies for children, always keep wax melts and burners out of reach of children and pets. Avoid leaving a lit burner unattended.
What should I do if my burner gets too hot?
Ensure you’re using a tealight with a burn time of 4 hours or less, and ensure your wax burner has a distance of atleast 10cm between the flame and the bottom of the dish for electric burners, check the wattage to avoid overheating. When purchasing a wax burner, ensure you purchase from a reputable supplier and that the product is thick and sturdy and made of good quality materials.
